B.Tech Project

Bachelor's Final Year Project (BTP)

My B.tech project was under the supervision of Dr. Biju N, the project was based on harnessing waste energy that vehicles lose on speed breaker and making compressed air from that energy, which can be used in various applications. For harnessing, we used a spring-piston mechanism that conserved the waste energy in spring energy which can later be converted to further forms.

Brief Description

Ever since automobile came into existence on road, traffic has been a major issue. Speed breakers are provided to control the speed of traffic. The potential energy in terms of weight of the vehicle is loss on speed breaker. This energy can be utilized for useful purposes. This project focus on harnessing the potential energy in terms of weight of the vehicle in the form of compressed air and storing it in the tank as non-conventional method by simply driving the vehicle. Compressed air production using vehicle need no fuel input power. The project had three major parts a frame that will be taking the weight of entire vehicle, a single acting piston cylinder with a spring that will be used to compress the air with the help of a movable dome that will came back to its normal position with the help the spring and the third part is the tank where the compressed air is stored. This compressor tank stores compressed air in form of CAES. Compressed air energy storage (CAES) is a way to store energy generated at one time for use at another time using compressed air.
